Happy 9 week birthday!

Happy 9 weeks to you today, Isabelle!

You are doing well today...back to your old fussy self! No fever or fussiness last night. You slept a 4 hour stretch before you needed to eat. Your godfather, Tommy, has left for Vancouver and we will not have any more visitors for a while...so we need to get you into some kind of napping routine!

We are not sure if it is a fluke or not but on Saturday at church, you let out your first loud chuckle! Not very appropriate when the priest was giving his homily! He didn't even say anything funny, Isabelle! Hahahaha...but Mommy couldn't help but chuckle under our breath too...heehee. I hope to hear more laughter from you soon!

2 month Baby Wellness Check-up and Vaccinations

Dear Isabelle,

We went in to see Dr. Pang for your 2 month baby wellness check-up and vaccinations today. You weigh 10 lbs 5 ozs (44%), your height is 22 inches (44%) and your head circumference is 15 inches (40%). Dr. Pang said you are growing very well! You were in the 25 percentile at 3 weeks and now are in the 44 percentile.

You got your first set of shots today...OUCH! 3 shots (2 in one thigh and 1 in the other) and a squirt in the mouth. Mommy cried with you when you got your shots and Daddy was there to hold you still. You are such a brave little girl. Mommy nursed you right after your shots and you calmed right down.

You didn't get a fever and wasn't fussy the whole day...you are usually fussier on normal days! Your next set of shots are when you turn 4 months. We are so NOT looking forward to that!

We had brunch at your godfather Dan's restaurant at Hotl Bel Air today. He invited us to sit at the chef's table in the kitchen and cooked us a feast. Your other godfather, Tommy, is visiting us from Hong Kong and joined us for brunch as well! You have so many godfathers! Lucky girl...

Bugaboo Warehouse Sale!

Hey Belle,

We went to our first warehouse sale today! If you know Mommy, you know that she LOVES her sales...so this is just training for more warehouse sales in the future...

The Bugaboo warehouse sale was in Culver City and Auntie Janet came with us. It was really crowded and we waited in line for an hour. You slept in the sling the whole time! There were strollers and all the accessories all on sale. We got a whole bunch of stuff and they were 30%-70% off!

"Sleepy-Time": Gentle Sleep Techniques for You and Your Baby

Dear Isabelle,

We went to the "Sleepy-Time" workshop today so that we can gather more tools to help you nap better during the day. We learned that there are worse sleepers out there than you! At least you don't wake up every 2 hours during the night...knock on wood!

We got you an Angel Dear blankie to serve as a transitional object and a naptime buddy. We hope this works! Mommy wants you to sleep a little bit more that you are sleeping now during the day so you won't be so grumpy when Daddy gets home from work!

Yoga Baby Drop-Out

Little cry baby,

We have to drop out of yoga class because you won't stop crying...boo. Every time Mommy put you on the mat, you start crying. You just want to be held all class long...so how is Mommy going to do yoga when we have to carry you all the time? I guess we'll have to wait till you are older to continue the class. So embarrassing!

Happy 2 month birthday!

My dear little fussy baby,

We celebrate your 2 month birthday with lots and lots of crying and fussing today...why?? Mommy has started a Eat, Sleep and Poop log for you because we really need to find some kind of routine or schedule for you. You are constantly eating...seems like you get hungry every 1.5 hours and you only sleep 45 mins at a stretch. Since we are now by ourselves, Mommy needs to at least carve out 3 hours a day for work. And with all that crying, carrying, bouncing, feeding and soothing, Mommy has no time for work!

We hope we can get into some kind of groove together or Mommy will have to sell you on eBay! Anyone want to buy a 10 lbs baby??

Bye Bye 奶奶

Thank you 奶奶 for taking care of us for 3 whole weeks! Mommy probably put on weight because of all the good food you cooked her. We will miss you but hopefully will see you and 爷爷 in October!

Brunch with 奶奶

Dear Isabelle,

We took your 奶奶 to Daddy's work today and Daddy cooked us a delicious brunch as usual. For the most part, you were good...until at the very end when you fussed a little. We didn't see any celebrities this time. We think 奶奶 enjoyed her lunch today!

Milestone: Blowing Spit Bubbles

Hey Isabelle,

What is this new thing that you have learned to do??? Blowing spit bubbles. And why have you started to do this? You think it is quite funny...saliva everywhere! You also have started drooling! And you love eating shoulders and faces too...yummm...

It has peaked Mommy's curiosity and we did some research. Apparently it is a milestone! Congratulations! This usually happens when babies are around 3 months old. You are not even 2 months old yet...don't grow up too fast!

Happy 7 week birthday!

Dear Isabelle,

You turn 7 weeks old today! You are sleeping better and better every night and when you do, Mommy loves waking up to your smiley face! You are so animated in the morning...you have so much to say...as if you are telling Mommy and Daddy what you dreamed about the night before. When you cry at night, your sister Zoë leaves the room and sleeps outside...she cannot stand to be bothered from her beauty sleep.

Isabelle's morning face

Mommy took you to another New Mothers Breastfeeding support group session yesterday. We love going to the Pump Station! We were there to ask questions about bottle feeding amounts and schedules. Wendy said that the most you should be eating at a sitting is 4 ozs and that our schedule of feeding on demand should still remain. We also asked how we can get you to be more calm in your carseat so just you and Mommy can go out more often. She suggested getting an On-The-Go Sleep Sheep. We are going to try it!

My little piglet...we just weighed you and you weigh 9 lbs 10 ozs today!

Mommy and Me Yoga

Dear Isabelle,

Since you spend quite a bit of your sleeping and waking hours stretching, Mommy and Daddy figured that it is a good idea to sign Mommy and you up for a series of Mommy and Me Yoga classes. I think it will be super fun...we can't wait to start it!

Last OB/GYN Visit

Yesterday was my last visit to my OB/GYN's office. As I looked around the waiting room, all the 5 women there were at least 25 weeks pregnant. I unconsciously rub my flat belly as I would always do when I was carrying Isabelle. I actually miss being pregnant!

I had a very pleasant pregnancy. I had morning sickness for only about a week and it wasn't even the kind that made you throw up. I had a little bit of pelvic pain at the end of my term. I had a monstrous appetite but only gained about 23 lbs in total. I enjoyed feeling every flutter and kick from my tiny baby. I loved taking weekly pictures of my ever expanding waistline and watching it develop. I look at the pregnant ladies in the waiting room and see the radiance that glow from their skin. Gosh, do I miss being pregnant! But I quickly snap out of it when my name was called...I miss my baby Isabelle who is at home even more!

It was a great last visit. I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight, everything seemed to have healed exceptionally well and are back in the places they started off at. I give my Dr. Monica Lee a big farewell hug and tell her unless "something" else comes up, I'll see her next year for my annual checkup!

Real Tears

Dear Isabelle,

For the first 5 weeks of your life, when you would cry, you shed no tears. It is because your tear ducts have not fully formed. But it seems like these couple of days when you go into your crazy cry (you scare your 奶奶, by the way), tears start welling up in your eyes! It makes it even more dramatic! No more crocodile tears...

Happy 6 week birthday!

Dear Isabelle,

You are 6 weeks old today! You are starting to smile and interact with Mommy and Daddy more and more each day. You love it when Mommy sings "Itsy Bitsy Spider"...although Mommy doesn't have the best singing voice. You are Mommy's #1 fan!

We got your professional photos by John Milios back too. They came out FABULOUS! Now Mommy has to get them printed out and hung up on the wall!

9 lbs!

4 days ago, we weighed you, you were 8 lbs 10 ozs...today, you hit the scales at 9 lbs!

We wanted to send you to a casting for a Discovery Channel baby TV episode as they wanted babies under 9 lbs but you have already grown since we last got the casting information, you won't be able to participate! Oh well!

It's Just You and I, Kiddo!

Our first mini outing together! We went to church, just you and Mommy, all by ourselves! You were very well behaved. On our drive there, you cried a little but luckily, church was only 5 mins away from home. At church, everyone was in awe at you! You slept in the sling the whole time. An on our drive back, you were so good. No crying at all! Until we got home, you cried, but it was because it was past your feeding time.

Mommy is so proud of you! Slowly, we can go for longer outings alone.

Day vs. Night

Dear Isabelle,

You seem to be more aware of day vs. night now. During the day, you feed every 2 hours but at night, you wake up every 4 hours to feed. Usually, our last feeding session for the night is at 10:30 pm. The next feeding will be around 2:30 am and then again at 6:30 am. That gives Mommy about 6 hours of sleep each night! We think that's a great schedule and hope that you will slowly start sleeping through the night!

How I Feel About Breastfeeding

I spent my first hour as a mother with a lovely, tiny stranger named Isabelle latched on at my breast. I had no idea that breastfeeding isn't as instinctual and effortless as advertised. I was almost discouraged when I was met with cracked, sore, bleeding nipples and painfully engorged breasts in the first week. I had a major meltdown but with the encouragement and support of Mom, Dad, Ah-Ma and especially, the best husband in the world, I am glad I pulled through that dark period of time.

As I write these words a little more than a month later, my little Belle is napping peacefully after falling asleep at my breast. With lots of patience, determination and the help of a genius lactation consultant, Wendy Haldeman, nursing has become pain-free and soothing for both Isabelle and I. As soon as she latches on, I can feel her little body relax and any agitation fade away, and looking into her sweet, grateful eyes has the same effect on me. For those 20 or so minutes, I have total permission to do nothing but stare at my tiny, beautiful daughter.

Nursing eases some of my bigger anxieties too. I know I can't protect Isabelle from every illness, but it's reassuring to know that I'm providing her with the strongest immune system I can. I'm happy to know that I am helping my own health as well. Every time I nurse, I know I'm chipping away at the risk of getting breast cancer.

Isabelle is growing up so fast. She is now slowly taking the bottle so she can be taken care of by others. And I am happy that breastfeeding still remains the one thing only I can do or her. She is also growing on my milk, and my milk alone when we're apart, and I am still responsible for the most basic of her needs. I feel like superwoman when I think of this. Sometimes, when I find out that she was given a bottle without my knowledge, I confess I pout a little.

At night, I dim the lights in the bedroom and nurse my daughter one more time before she falls deliriously drunk on her joy juice, just as I did on that first day I met her, I fall asleep with sweet dreams of how Isabelle and I have grown together, and how much we will grow in the future. Breastfeeding is my favorite reminder that we're doing it together.

This Little Piggy...

This little piggy went to the market,
This little piggy stayed at home,
This little piggy had roast beef,
This little piggy had none,
And this little piggy went wee wee wee wee all the way home!

The little piggy called Isabelle is 8 lbs 10 ozs today!

You are gaining weight at an exponential rate—more than 1 oz a day!

Happy Birthday 奶奶!

Dear Isabelle,

It is 奶奶's birthday today! We celebrated at Craft and had a great meal. The chef sent out many complimentary dishes and we had a FEAST! I think 奶奶 enjoyed it.

You were well-behaved and had a small bottle at the restaurant. But it wasn't enough for you so Mommy had to feed you more—our first public breatfeeding session...we were very discreet and no one even noticed!
